Mommies R Us

A mother will put socks on your feet and a sweater around your shoulders when the wind is barely gusting.

A mother will stay home from work because her child is running a low-grade fever, which means the mother is also sick. Sick in her heart.

A mother will put a towel in the dryer before putting you in your bath so when you get out she can wrap a warm towel around you.

A mother will have some extra money and some rare free time to go shopping and then find it impossible to shop for anyone but her kids.

A mother can hear her baby cry from 100 miles away.

A mother will become enraged toward anyone who mistreats her child.

A mother knows how to make the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. She is born with it. It can't be taught.

A mother can't watch the news anymore for fear she will hear something about a child being harmed and won't be able to get it out of her head.

A mother will do anything to make her child laugh and won't care one bit how stupid this makes her look, even when she's in public.

A mother can tolerate failure in other aspects of her life better than she can falling short on motherhood.

A mother can wear drool on the shoulder of her t-shirt and not be bothered by it. She might even sniff it from time to time.

A mother gets to say "yay!" a lot.

A mother is someone you're always homesick for, who always makes you feel safe and always knows how to make you feel better when you're sad. Even when you're 37.

This post was part of a blog blast from The Parent Blogger's Network for Portraits of a Mom, in honor of the upcoming Mother's Day.

Loved this! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's stopped watching the news for that very reason.
