Getting Old

I was watching the Michael Jackson tapes the other night. One thing he was quoted as saying was, "There's nothing uglier than getting old." I don't know if ugly is the word I would use, but good god it's sad. And humbling as hell.

I'm only 38. But like Sally said in When Harry Met Sally (my favorite movie of all time), I'm going to be 40 SOMEDAY! Although I already feel like it.

First of all, my eyes are failing me. I've worn contacts for as long as I can remember, so as long as they're in, I see pretty good. I've never had trouble reading. But now, when I put something in front of me that needs to be read, I have to zoom it in and out and around before I get to a place where everything is in focus. When I'm sitting in front of the computer, I have to do that with my own head. Yes, it makes me look like a chicken clucking.

The other day, I actually called a friend on her birthday because her Facebook page said her birthday was on the 26th. And was so embarrassed to be reminded that it was not until today. The 28th. Damn it 6 and 8! You made a fool out of me!

Then today, guess what? I did it again! I posted a Happy Birthday to a friend whose birthday is not until tomorrow. Because I didn't see the fine print that said (Tuesday) after her name. Sigh.

To quote an even wiser member of the world, my own father, who said, "Getting old is for cah cah," I'd say, Dad, you got that right on the nose.

Anyway, Happy Birthday Maggie and Laura. Today and tomorrow respectively.

Lay-Z

My husband's gangster name for me is Lay-Z.

Based on the fact that my last name starts with Z, and well, you get the rest of the joke I'm sure. Especially if you know me.

It's not that I'm lazy, per se. It's just that I'm a very mellow person and I'm especially talented at getting my chill on. I once dated a guy who said to me, "Girl, you know how to RELAX!"

Why am I telling you this?

Because I've become a lazy blogger. The only reason I'm posting today is because I got the ever so sweet "We miss you!" email from the gals over at BlogHer. Which I do appreciate. I admit, it takes a swift kick in the pants to motivate me sometimes.

I will not go into excuses as I've done that in many a blog post before. But I will give you a quick update on news, for those who are interested.

-Z is sleeping much better now as long as we don't put her to bed before 9:30. Any earlier and she keeps popping up with the lame excuses (hmm. lame excuses. I wonder where she gets that one?)

-The Lil' Man only slept in that toddler bed without the front rail for four nights before he started falling out of it. Because Chris can't find all the right nails for the front rail, it is now duct-taped on one side, much to my perfectionist's dismay.

-Z is teaching me Spanish. She has Spanish at her new school three days a week, and already knows most of her colors and a few catchy tunes.

-The Lil' Man is wearing Pull-Ups, only because they're easier to put on after "tubby." This makes me realize how quickly my babies are growing up. That, and the fact that his legs are beginning to resemble mine. His chub thighs are disappearing and his baby belly is even shrinking. Three of my girlfriends have had babies recently and after cuddling one the other day, I am really glad Chris had that vasectomy because I have been bitten by the madness of actually missing the baby stage and thinking another one wouldn't be so bad. (Yes it would. The stress would certainly kill us all.)

-Our little ad agency is so busy we are actually looking into taking out a loan, renting office space, buying computers, printers and even a junior art director or designer. It's scary, but exciting. It's also hard running a business with your husband, but I have to admit, I've learned what a great business man he is. I married him for his great hair so this business stuff is a major bonus!
